LUUUX.COM—>>> Blogging is a new currency

AS a budget shopper, I spend hours trying to find a good deal on things that are very expensive. I love thrift shops, I frequent the clearance racks, and coupons are my best friend. But there are things that are harder to find on sale like an iPad or the oh so popular Sigma Brushes. Well, this site allows you to blog for point or what they call “luuux $” and what you do is save those points up to buy luxury items from their “luuux shop”. They have all kinds of electronics like 2 different iPads, 2 different Macbook Pro’s , Digital cameras and just too much to name. If you’re not big on electronics they also have shoes and accessories, bags, clothes, and much more. There is even a LV bag. Now I dont know about anyone else but This is such a great deal. Orglamix Organic Mineral Makeup Review & Giveaway

As a freelance MUA i’m always looking for new great products to add to my kit. I recently tried some mineral products from a fairly new company called Orglamix (I was asked to chose 3 colors and the items were sent to me for review by the company).

I got two eyeshadows and a blush that were great overall.

Eyeshadows:

Citron: A beautiful shimmer yellow.

Red: A very pretty color BUT, not red. It’s more of an orange with a pink undertone. I was a little disappointed when I saw that the red was not red but it still is a great color to have. I got a lot of color payoff. I thought it would fade by the end of the night based on the way it feels but surprisingly as I am typing this at 2am, the color is still going strong.

Blush:

Nutmeg: This color looks just like what you see if you go in your cabinet and pull out a bottle of nutmeg. I think its a cute color for someone of a lighter complexion but it is good to use to set cream blush. Not my favorite blush color but for the price I think it’s still worth having.

Detroit Style Stars

Disclaimer: I stole y’all photo’s, let me know if you want me to take them off!!!!!!!!!

Ok, So since this blog is called “Detroit Urban Beauty” I wanted to spotlight a couple of detroit Beauties doing their thing!!!!!

Cydara Elise (Singer/Dancer/Songwriter)

This chick right here, this chick right here son!!!!!! But forreal, I met her in one of my classes @ wc3 and the only way to describe her is DOPE! She has to be one of the overall coolest people I have ever met. Her style in my eye is New York meets L.A. and have a baby. Cydara is one of those girls that’s just the real definition of thick. Not the “I think i’m thick but really im overweight” type THICK, but the healthy type of thick. I have always, even though I don’t get to see her that much, seen this girl showing off her natural curves with countless pairs of Leggings, with fitted Jackets and when she dresses its all or nothing. If she gives rocker chic, she’s going all the way with the all black everything and every time manages to pull out the sickest heels possible. If she’s doing color it’s mostly bright colors but not too much to where it looks like its glowing. Hair is always on point. Im particularly a fan of the cut and color she has in this pic, but I can guarantee you she doesn’t keep any one style for long. She Blasted into 2010 with her Song “Money” which is a certified banger and then Gave us a great flashback to the Mixes we all loved from the 90′s with “Used to be” FT. RO SPIT. All in all I think if music doesn’t work out She would be an absolutely great stylist!!!!!!!!!!

Lauren Speed (Model/Actress/College Graduate)

This Girl here I met when I was 12 years old at St.Cecilia Grade school. Fast forward 12 years later and I am happy to say unlike a lot of people I went to school with, this girl is doing her thing getting herself known everywhere. Source Magazine, Slum village video, BET Rip the Runway, and countless other things she has done that I cant think of off the top of my head. Then on top of that gets her degree from EMU. In a city where many girls are convinced that modeling is taking naked pictures all the time while doing the same pose you just did  at the club, Lauren has expanded her horizons and is a great model and role model for young women, especially in Detroit, who seriously want to model. One thing I can say about her is that her makeup game is always A1.

So thats all I have to say for now!!!! Hope you are inspired by the two young women showcased today!!!!!!

120 Palette Review

Now that the holiday and all the crazy stuff is over I can continue with my series on palettes. This is a Picture of a Manly  120 Eyeshadow palette. What I like about this palette is that for every Shimmer color there is a Matte color that is almost if not the same. The palette comes with 2 trays . the one you see on top has the usual black grey and white. it also has your darker greens and blues, all your pinks and purples, as well as some light gold to reddish copper colors on the bottom. The one you see on the bottom has more shades of blue and green, and then goes off into yellow’s and oranges. What is really special about this palette is, if you look closely, you can see that some of the colors on the right end of the bottom palette are marbleized.

Now for my review!!!!!!!

This palette gives excellent color payoff, with the right brush a little can go a long ways, these colors also are great to use as liners, all you have to do is wet your liner brush first. This is great for a person who doesn’t have a lot of money to spend on eyeshadows like Mac or Sephora. The only thing I don’t like about this palette is that there are no neutral colors which means you will probably have to get the neutrals separate or on a separate palette all together. With that being said. I would suggest that this palette be in everybody’s makeup collection!!!!!!!!!

Kiss New York Event

Ok. So I went to northland mall in Southfield michigan for the kiss makeover event. I didn’t want a makeover but I wanted to meet the people from the company. So the company sent Their celebrity makeup artist Danessa Myrick and She had with her an assistant (Kharisma). SO what they were doing is giving people free makeovers. If you wanted lashes you had to buy them and they would put them on for you. They used kiss face products and Ruby kisses eye products. They also asked people to fill out a quick survey and gave out a small goodie bag. In the bag was  ”kiss new york maxi shine lipstick”, “kiss new york glossy lip pencil”, and “kiss intense color shock lipgloss”. One thing I found out is why they havent put any of their ruby kisses products on the website “THEY ARE COMING OUT WITH TONS OF NEW EXCITING PRODUCTS IN THE NEXT COUPLE OF MONTHS SO LOOK OUT FOR THAT. I only went to meet the people and get some lashes. So i’m at the beauty supply store they were @ in the mall and Danessa just makes me the happiest MUA with these Words “OMG, your makeup looks so flawless”. So I have been doing makeup for less than a year so the fact that a celebrity artist compliment my makeup is HUGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I also got her business card so I could keep in touch. I feel sorry for whoever missed it because it was nice. Thats all I wanted to say really. Have a Blessed Day!!!!!!!!!!!

Palette #2- Foundation

My favorite palette!!!!!Ok so I guess Im going to be doing a series of post devoted to palettes.

This right here Is a foundation/concealor palette. The first four are more like concealors while the rest are Foundations. What I like about this palette is that it does exactly what I need it to do. the thing is , it is really small, like extremely small. I was disappointed when I saw the size of it but I bought it so I might as well use it right. The colors look good but not on everybody. some of the foundations have a pink undertone which I hate . I have to say this is something good to mix with other foundation but for the most part I wouldn’t use this alone.

While I am not the biggest fan of this palette, i will say that it doesn’t smudge and I was able to use this on a fashion show gig. I was also able to do an entire acne cover on someones back with this palette. So all in all I give this 3 out of 5 stars (good for a kit but definitely now a must have)

Lipstick Palette Review

So in one of my previous post I did a list of the palettes I have or want to have. Well today I will be doing a review on one I have had for a while but just now got around to using. This is a 66 color Lipstick Palette. The first four colors are glosses and the rest are true to color lipstick.

What I think:

This has to be one of the best investment I have made as far as makeup so far. The tiniest bit goes a long way and so far most of the colors are non-transferrable. the ones I seen that are not are the brownish colors. I purchased mine off of eBay for like 8 dollars but it can also be purchased from BH cosmetics. I will say this, it is just about mandatory you use a lip brush with this palette because the thing is very small.

Overall I give this palette an A+. In fact, i’m thinking about ordering another one.

My journey into the world of makeup!!!!

So as I stated in previous post I am a freelance MUA (make up artist). I love crazy fun makeup looks. In my opinion the brighter the better. I have not been doing this for long which causes some people who have been in this industry a while say that I should get more experience before I start calling myself an MUA. What I have learned in the past  few months hopefully will take me a long way. some of the things I’ve learned from other MUA’s

  • You can find great makeup at all price ranges.
  • Just because someone has been in the field longer than you have, it doesn’t make their work any better than yours
  • Quality brushes are everything
  • Practice Makes perfect
  • Like anything else, this is a competitive field, make sure it’s what you really want
  • You are a Brand, Always display excellence!!!!
  • Treat every client like they paid a million bucks for your services, you never know what opportunities can come from it!!!!!!!

Makeup artistry is absolutely fun but it is work just like anything else.

My tips for getting started!!!

  • Dont try to buy everything at once
  • Shop for deals
  • Make sure you have business cards (for the NYX pro discount this is all you really need)
  • Find a MUA you really like and try to study their work and techniques
  • Suscribe to The Powder Group
  • Try to invest in a trip to Imats if you can
  • Be confident
  • This is so cliche but  ”Just Do IT”
  • Dont be afraid to make mistakes ( the more mistakes you make, the more you have to learn from)
  • Make friends with local photographers and models
