Get the look

Hey There Beautiful People!

We all ohhhh and ahhhh over our favorite celebrities and their fashion choices. Unfortunately, as young christians we don’t have a lot of people to look up to who keep it stylish and COVERED. Fortunately we do have Gospel superstar Kierra Sheard.  Kierra is one of the few that gives us relevant fashion without being trashy or suggestive. I’ve noticed that she is a big fan of Color Blocking and Bright Colors. If you wanna get the Kierra Sheard look follow these tips:

  • Shapers are Key: Any good look starts with a Good Foundation. A good shaper keeps everything smooth and in place
  • Lots of color and prints: It is rare you see kierra wearing one color head to toe and if she does she definitely adds something with the accessories
  • Accessories are a Must: Judging by the many pictures she post on instagram (@khloedrew) This fashionsta is in love with unique earrings, and Gold necklaces and bangles.
  • Heels, High Heels: Yes you can bet on seeing kierra in a pair of flats but it’s her pumps that make a statement
  • Try Something Different: Kiki Officially became my fashion Shero when she stepped out looking amazing wearing a BOLD BLUE LIP. The big tip I have for trying something bold and different is to be confident in your decision.

Fashion is fun, don’t take it so seriously. In the end if you don’t like it you can just take it off. Remember, it’s ok to be inspirerd by someone, but remember to put your own spin on things. Peace, Love, and Blessings Beautiful People!!!!!!!!

P.S. Where is this Mamajik clothing line at?I was excited to see her stuff!!!!!!!

Nail Of the Day

So I decided to get my nails done because my real nails were breaking. The nail shop usually doesn’t have the colors I like so I just decided to start polishing the nails at home myself. This week it’s all about they greys.

On my nails I have:
KleanColor Polish in CHARCOAL
Milani holographic polish in HD
and a China Glaze crackle in Cracked Concrete
The KleanColor polish has to be one of my favorites ever. Can you believe it only took one coat to get that color pay off. As you can see I didn’t have the best lighting so the crackle looks funny but I promise it looks much better in person.

Thats all I have to say about that.

Have a blessed and productive weekend!!!!!!

I’m really disappointed that the only gospel representation as far as performances was Yolanda Adams singing during the Aretha Franklin Tribute. My question with that is why wasn’t Karen Clark Sheard Performing during the tribute. Everyone knows she loves aretha and aretha loves her. I can almost gurantee you if they would have asked her to sing she would have done it. Well, What are your thoughts on the grammy’s. Personally, I think this was a good one .

Fashion:

Again, gospel needs to do better with the wardrobe.

OK, So Yolanda  Adams looks great. And while I am a fan of everyone pictured I must say i’m not seeing anything greater than a C- in the Fashion department. I understand not everyone has a stylist but I know for sure that you could get one of for no other show, the grammy’s. I would love to see a gospel artist on the best dressed list but i’m not holding my breath.

Karen Clark Sheard’s new Music Video and Review!!!

Gospel Icon Karen Clark Sheard just released her new video for the single “He Knows” ft. Dorinda Clark Cole via dagospeltruth.com. I’m sad I don’t have the video here for you as of yet but I’m working on it. If you want to watch the video click Here .

So, the video starts out with a glimpse of what looks like a journal or a diary. Then a Partial Silhouette of J.Moss talking and then it leads to Karen Singing. Before I go any further, I have to say George Mckenny is the bomb on some makeup. But anyways, So you see Karen standing in front of a window singing With a piece of silk fabric occasionally floating by.  In between beauty shots of Karen singing, there were Clips of people looking like they were worried about something (not sure what in particular). There was also a young men dancing in the video. You can only see a silhoutte of them but I think it was very appropriate for this video.  By the time the chorous comes we get our first glimpse of Dorinda lounging on a couch singing part of the chorous. While Dorinda is singing, There are scenes of a man drinking (if my eyes don’t deceive me it george mckenny) crying and looking distraught. Then the chorus comes back with Silhouettes of Dorinda and Karen, The young man dancing, and some nice beauty shots of them separately. Then we get a scene where a young woman is getting out of a car and then getting in bed with her husband. This will all make sense when you watch the video.

Update: I got the video from a user on Youtube! No copyright infringement intended!!!

What I Think:

I was surprisingly happy with this video. Even for major label gospel artist, the video’s tend to not be of the best quality with a few exceptions. Either that or you spend a lot of time waiting on a video and all you get is a recording of a performance you have probably already seen. This video had great cinematography, you could tell there was an actual “Treatment”, and everything was professionally done. The hair, makeup, and styling was on point. This video should be a “what a gospel artist video should look like. The only thing I can say is that I felt like the dancer was a little unnecessary. But at the same time it didn’t take anything away from the video plus the dancing was good so hey!!!!!!!

All in all I give this video 5 stars out of 5

★★★★★

P.S. Am I the only person who thinks KCS should have had her own label a long time ago. Now I want to see what she would do with an artist that is not a family member!!!!!

Is the church hindering the growth of gospel music?!?!?!?!?!?!?

Music has changed a lot over time. From what is said in music to how it is said, there is no doubt that music has changed. Some would even use the word evolved. Gospel music is no exception to this. What used to be slow hymns and sunday morning music has now evolved into hard beats and Strong Lyrics. There are even Gospel Rappers and Hip Hop artist now. Artist like Deitrick Haddon, Mary Mary, 21:03, and many others are either accredited with the evolution o gospel music or have embraced the new sound that has developed within the last 10-15 years.

Specifically Gospel Duo Mary Mary. They have been taking music by storm with an innovative sound and overall outlook on music since their first hit “Shackles” back in 2000 if i’m not mistaken. Since then their music has catered more to those who may not necessarily go to church. For this reason many like myself love and enjoy their music. Others believe that all gospel music should speak to the church. It’s almost a let the world fend for themselves mentality. Kind of like Church people believe they “OWN” gospel music and never mind if you don’t help to bring someone from the streets to the church. As long as it sounds like a hymn it’s all good right.

What people forget is that When jesus went out to talk to the people, he didn’t just speak to his disciples. He went out to the people and spoke. Why is it that jesus went out to the people but the church wants to stay in the box. So lets think about a box. A box only has a certain amount of room. Meaning there is only so much you can put into a box before nothing else will fit. Eventually if you continue to put things in the box after it is full it will spill over onto whatever surface the box is on. This is very metaphoric to the career of mary mary. In the beginning , Their music was like a gift to the church. Then as time went on, their gift got bigger and bigger to where not only were church people recognizing them, but “worldly” people as well.

Many Gospel music lovers complain that gospel music is not recognized enough in the mainstream arena. But when it is the first thing people do is find something wrong. “It’s too hip hop” or “they’re not being themselves” is what is usually said about this duo in particular. I have to say, being some one who has gotten the opportunity to see them talk, interact, and give their opinion on things outside of music, I have to say that their music is a direct reflection of their personality. Especially with this new track they have let everyone hear called Something Bigger. It has a very BEP (black eyed peas) feel to it. There is a very important line in the song that says “I can take it to the church where my people go, or I can take it to the people who just don’t know”. That’s what we need to remember. There are millions of people who don’t know so why not make music to tell those who don’t know who God is how amazing he is.

What is “Christian Fashion”????

If you type a search in google for “Christian fashion” You wont get anything really. Faith based fashion has always been either the sunday morning suits with the matching hats, or just a plain t-shirt with an overused saying or Song Lyric. What about the 20 somethings that want something fun and fashionable to wear to church. it is hard to find decent church clothes that you don’t have to pay tons of money for. For a while, a few years ago, Simply Fashions had some really good suits that were fashionable yet very appropriate for only about $15. Then all of a sudden they stopped selling them. Now it’s hard to even find a decent skirt that is not super short and super tight. A lot of people , including myself, either wear a lot of pants or sundresses. I’m Just waiting on a designer to come out with some church dresses and suits for us 20 somethings!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Same blog, Different Format & Focus

So, Welcome to my Blog. This blog used to be called “Detroit Urban Beauty” but I decided that it needed a change. I wanted to do this from a perspective that you don’t see a lot of. Instead of being just from a Detroiters perspective, it now has a more christian focus. When Shopping I find myself looking for what I like along with what is respectable. Many people think that in order to be fashionable you have to be half naked. I partially blame the media for that. The purpose of this blog is now to educate, inform, and enlighten you on everything a “Christian Fashionista” wants or needs to know. So check out the different tabs at the top and…………………..

Is there a polish worth $13

Mac’s Mean & Green Polish which is apart of their Disney Villains Collection comes in 3 different irridescent shades. They are very pretty and dry quick but the question is, are they worth $13? I would have to say no. I like this polish, but after purchasing it and looking at it real good. I can find the same polish from brands like OPI or Sally Hansen for half the price or even cheaper. in all honesty I have yet to see a polish that is worth paying that much for. What is sad is that I would have considered keeping it if it had a disney character like most of the other stuff in the collection. That just goes to show how much packaging effects what people buy.

Have you seen a polish you would pay $13 or more for. If so let me know by leaving a comment below!!!!!!!!

Fall is here….. Fashion!!!!!!!!

Fall has officially arrived. This is the season everyone has gotten settled back in school. You start Stocking up on Coco and Tea, And Fashion has a drastic change. More shades of orange and brown emerge. Instead of using bright pink or green nail polish you start pulling out those dark plum colors and muted shades. My favorite part of fall is being able to pull out those fabulous boots. I have booties, some that are calf length, knee high, thigh high, flats heels, I basically have just about every type of boot. I know a lot of matching is a fashion don’t, but I love when my fall jacket and my boots match. It’s just such a clean look. Here are a list of things I think you might like for fall

*Cow Neck Sweaters* These are one of those pieces I love because they are just so easy to wear. you don’t need a lot of accessories when you wear one of these. If you find one like the one shown you can pair it with a pair of tights and some cute boots and be on your way. Another way to wear this is of course with a suit. That way you are fashionable and professional looking at the same time. Another reason I like these is because I would always forget my scarves whenever I went somewhere so I would just rigg my collar to fit like a scarf.

*Jeggings* I love these for the simple fact that they fit absolutely perfectly. This is for us girls who have so much hips and booty that most pants don’t fit right. I would say that if you tend to be cold like myself, wear a pair of leggings underneath or even some long-johns(thermal pants). They come in a lot of different washes and can be found for as low as $10 at burlington coat factory or shoppers world.

*Boots* Oh how I love fall boots. All the different styles and shapes. The only thing is if you are short you have to be careful what length of boot you wear because some of them can make you look even shorter.Of course everyone has the basic brown and black colored boots, But I think every person should have a pair of grey, something with a print, and pewter colored boots.

*Jackets*

A jacket can sometimes complete a look. The jackets shown are some of my favorites for fall. They are simple and stylish. Unlike many of the ones that were on the market last year, more of these are coming with hoods which can look so cool with the right hairstyle!!!!

What are some of your favorite fall fashions and how are you transitioning your closet from summer to fall?

*all photos uploaded from Google.com. I don’t own any of the pictures shown. No copyright infringement intended*
